Maintain your mental health even at work

Maintaining great mental health is a priority for several people across different workplaces.

As much as you want to keep being healthy mentally as an employee you also want to consider the impacts some of your actions will have on your workplace.

We’ve put together 6 tips that will prioritize your mental health while ensuring that your work is not jeopardized.

We think you’ll find number 4 exciting!

  1. Focus on your strengths

Don’t focus on your weaknesses, but rather on becoming more of who you already are. Take advantage of your strengths and look for projects that will give you satisfaction. As a result, you are more likely to experience accomplishment.

2. Keep yourself busy

What is your favorite thing to do? In what activities do you find yourself losing yourself? In the past, what did you enjoy doing most?

Stress can be reduced by enjoying yourself. Having fun and achieving something boosts your self-esteem when you do something you enjoy.

3. Engage in physical activities such as exercise

Experts believe exercise releases chemicals in your brain that make you feel good. Regular exercise can boost your self-esteem and help you concentrate, sleep and feel better.

Exercise also keeps the brain and your other vital organs healthy. Try to make physical activities that you enjoy a part of your day.

4. Start a gratitude culture

Studies have linked gratitude at work to less stress, fewer sick days, and higher job satisfaction. Writing down a good thing that happened that day and why is one way to start a gratitude practice. Alternatively, you can write a note (or email) to someone you are grateful for. You can even start your team meetings by going around the room and having each person share one thing they are thankful for.

5. Do things for others

At work, there are many ways to help others. Consider volunteering for a special project, taking on a mentee, or training a new employee. Furthermore, helping others can also benefit our own mental health. In addition to reducing stress, it can also improve mood, self-esteem, and happiness.

6. Slow down

In general, slowing down will help you make better decisions and connect with people more deeply. Invest time in self-reflection. Journaling, meditation, and taking breaks are some helpful methods. Keep in mind that you will go further even if you go slower.
